The IPU facilitated a second round of high-level parliamentary talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan today, offering its good offices to the delegations.
IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong welcomed the Speaker of the Azgayin Zhoghov (National Assembly of Armenia), Mr. Alen Simonyan, and the Speaker of the Milli Mejlis (National Assembly of Azerbaijan), Ms. Sahiba Gafarova, back to the IPU for the discussions.
This marks the second time the two Speakers have met at IPU headquarters, following a historic first meeting between the two parliamentary heads in March 2024.
The meetings underscore the critical role of the two parliaments in supporting reconciliation efforts as part of the overall peace process.
The IPU Secretary General welcomed recent progress on border delimitations and encouraged both parties to continue addressing all outstanding issues in order to achieve full normalization of their relations.
Both sides have committed to continuing the dialogue.
